I have been doing outdoor activities like rock climbing and hiking for years. It is important to have the correct supplies for winter camping, as this is can, at times, have a level of danger not present at other times of the year.
The most essential equipment that are to be taken while planning a rock climbing trip are ropes, helmets, shoes, chalk, chalk bag, harness, belay devices, and karabiners. Things like the wind and water can destroy a lot of your equipment so you will want to do regular checks to make sure it is all still good. However, even in familiar areas you could just as easily get lost and you never know the quality of the printing on the maps, so do not risk getting the maps washed or smudged by rain or moisture.
On the east coast we simply put up with the rain. Favorite fruits and veggies that pack well include carrot sticks, celery, raw broccoli and raw cauliflower. Once you have your basic gear, it lasts for a good bit of time.
Albert Einstein even said it, "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better," and he was right. Read a good book with the wind whispering through the leaves.
