hiking lesson plan for the beginning camper

It is important to have the correct supplies for winter camping, as this is can, at times, have a level of danger not present at other times of the year. Poor quality boots can make hiking a less-than-pleasant outdoor travel experience.

My favorite place to hike is the Rocky Mountains. If you are new to camping and have nobody to advise you on how to go about it you could spend sometime browsing through the various books and websites related to camping. A camping flashlight proves to be incredibly bright and always very useful.

To awaken to birds chirping and the sun rising over a misty horizon is incredible. Easy things like saltine crackers, cheese crackers, graham crackers, peanut butter crackers, and various types of chips or pretzels are excellent for taking on a hiking or camping trip. There are some sport-wool fabrics that are used in long johns, next a warm layer of clothing that may be a fleece type material and finally a quick-drying outer layer from a material like nylon or goretex.

You will need a flashlight so you can see your way around after you've put off your campfire. A multi-purpose knife can help you carve, cut, hack and slice anything and everything. You can also go back to the camp with your catch and cook it for dinner.

Get out there and try it! Hot dogs cooked on a stick over crackling flames is always a nice camping meal.
